Yes, I can cook.
Papa was actually the one who requested me to cook nasi goreng for merienda (snack) today. He really liked how my recipe had tasted, and even remarked that it tasted just like the nasi goreng that he had ordered at a resto at Jakarta. Contrary to the shrimp and chicken meat I’ve used in my first trial cooking, I have used tuna meat instead…and it tastes like heaven.
I’m currently addicted to this dish. My Indonesian friend Adziana (on Plurk) had introduced it to me almost a week ago, and it has become a craving.
I used the following ingredients:
- kecap manis (substitute)
- shrimp paste (bagoong)
- freshly-ground pepper
- long green pepper
- bird’s eye chili (green)
- few drops of Tabasco sauce PLUS cayenne
- Thai roasted chili paste (Yes, you can just imagine how spicy it is. :)))
- shredded cabbage
- tuna flakes in water
- canola oil
- Jasmine rice (of course)
Used sliced tomatoes, scrambled eggs (fried until crisp and golden brown, then cut into strips), and long green pepper for garnish. I’m sorry I can’t put numbers in the recipe…everything was “tinantsa” (done experimentally, no definite measurements).
